HMS releases TimeControl Version 5

TimeControl 5, one of the world's most popular timesheet systems enters a new generation

Montreal December 11, 2007 - HMS Software, an internationally recognized leader in enterprise project management and enterprise timesheet systems has announced today the release of TimeControl version 5. This is the 5th generation of TimeControl which was originally release in 1994.

"TimeControl 5 has been a long time in the making, ," says Chris Vandersluis, President of HMS Software. "Not only does this release include a new technical infrastructure, but we've also added more features than in any previous release since version 1.0 over 13 years ago!"

HMS has a long history of groundbreaking innovations in the Enterprise Timesheet Management field. In 1994, it released TimeControl became the first timesheet to include both project management and Finance links. In 1997, it released one of the first client/server timesheet systems. In 2001 TimeControl 4 became one of the first n-tier smart-client systems of any kind and included its own streaming object communications layer. Now, version 5 includes a completely rewritten database layer that improves performance and has ties to Microsoft .Net, the latest database technologies such as SQL Server 2005 and server-to-server integration for Project Management.

Aside from a completely new database infrastructure, this latest release of TimeControl includes numerous enhancements including:

Updated interface

The main TimeControl interface has undergone a complete overhaul. Old users will recognize familiar items where they expect but the overall look and feel has been upgraded to the latest Web-based and Vista standards. The result is an easier to navigate and more effective interface

Project Validation Interface

This interface has been overhauled with multiple views to provide project managers the ability to view timesheet data which might be problematic for the project schedule prior to accepting that data back in the project. Project Managers can then take immediate action including updating the timesheet and redistributing the hours or updating the Estimate to Complete for each task on the fly. TimeControl tracks, of course, a complete audit trail of all changes.

Project Management Server to Server links

With the new data architecture, TimeControl is now able to create links directly from the TimeControl Server to Project Management systems Servers such as Microsoft Project Server 2007 and Primavera 5 and 6. Movement of information to or from the TimeControl data can be scheduled to happen unattended on a schedule or on demand. A Server to Server link for Deltek's Open Plan is scheduled for the near future.

Support for Microsoft Office Project 2007

HMS worked directly with the Microsoft Project development team to ensure that TimeControl 5 would be fully integrated into Office Project Standard 2007, Project Professional 2007 and Project Server 2007. TimeControl's Server to Server link moves data to and from Project Server 2007 using the .Net PSI protocols developed by Microsoft. In addition, Project Server Administrators can now configure Project Server to update TimeControl automatically whenever a project is published using the OnPublishedEvent module supplied as part of TimeControl 5.

Lots, Lots more

In addition, there are more than 30 significant enhancements and dozens of minor usability improvements in TimeControl 5.

Pricing for TimeControl 5 varies according to volume - from $50 to $160 per license.

TimeControl 5 is available for shipment immediately. Clients with a current support and maintenance contract will be receiving upgrade CDs via mail automatically. Clients who wish to renew their support contracts may do so by contacting custsvc@hms.ca.
