We're very excited about TimeControl 6.1 which includes a mix of new features, enhanced functions and an extended architecture.
TimeControl 6.1 is the next evolution of the TimeControl 6 generation which started in 2010 and you'll find many features from version 5 such as Tables have now been migrated to the new multi-browser 6 architecture.
Tables now Multi-Browser
We've updated all the TimeControl tables to match our new multi-browser support architecture. The results are visually quite stunning and we hope you'll like them. No longer will TimeControl users who access tables require an ActiveX to do so.
ActiveX Removals
The changes in Tables and other updates to functions that are now in the TimeControl 6 multi-browser architecture means that we're down to just 3 ActiveX controls in TimeControl 6.1. The TCTime and TCTables ActiveX's are no more.
Support for the MySQL database
We've finished our testing under MySQL and it now joins Microsoft's SQL Server, Oracle and Sybase as possible repositories for your TimeControl database. The MySQL database is a popular open source option for which there is no purchase cost.
Personal Pre-loads
We've added a whole new function for managing pre-loaded tasks in a timesheet. TimeControl has had the ability to load tasks based on the resource table for a very long time. This allows an administrator to assign tasks to appear in each user's timesheet but also allows a link to a project management system to bring in task assignments and have those appear. That functionality is still in TimeControl 6.1 but we've also added the ability for each user to manage additional pre-loads that they choose themselves. The Personal Preload screen is now part of the MyAccount options.
Email notification is now optional
We've added the ability for users to opt-out of the prompt that asks them to send an email when they release or reject a timesheet. The option to turn off the prompt will appear in the email dialog itself and can be turned back on in MyAccount options.
Updated Tools
We've updated a number of tools to use the new multi-browser interface and ActiveX controls are no longer required for these functions. We're working over the next couple of versions to migrate all the existing functions and add a few more as well. In version 6.1, these functions are now part of the new interface architecture:
Update License Key
The license key screen is now in the new multi-browser format.
Delete Charge Codes
The function for deleting multiple charge codes at once is still part of the System Preferences but the new look and feel is all compatible with the TimeControl 6.1 interface structure. Administrators can select a filter, display a large number of charge codes and then delete them from the tree view.
Release Structure Updates
When a supervisor changes roles or leaves the organization, anywhere their user name appears in a release path must be updated. TimeControl makes this easy for Administrators manage by allowing a global change to the release paths using Release Structure Updates.
Transer to Oracle-Primavera Financial Periods
This feature was in TimeControl 5.1.8 after the release of TimeControl 6.0 and we've now completed the migration of the feature to TimeControl 6.1.
Users of TimeControl who link to Primavera's P6 can optionally elect to move data from TimeControl directly into the pre-defined Financial Periods in Primavera. This allows for a higher resolution of resource reporting such as Earned Value curves and other per-period reports in this project tool.
Improved support for Microsoft Project Server 2010 and SharePoint 2010
TimeControl has had a link to Microsoft Project since 1995 and our long relationship with Microsoft continues in this version with improved support for the link between Microsoft Project Server 2010 and TimeControl 6.1. Users can establish an "on-publish" event defined by TimeControl within Project Server that will automatically transfer newly published tasks to TimeControl without manual or even scheduled intervention. The module will also even create a new project table record in TimeControl.
As was the case in Project Server's Project Web Access 2007, clients can optionally elect to display TimeControl directly in a SharePoint 2010 site and link that site to Project Web Access.
