Which version of TimeControl is right for you?

TimeControl is available in 3 distinct versions, each designed to suit particular types of organizations. We’ve give you some information here to decide which version is ideal for you.

TimeControl Express — Designed for small business

Organizations of all sizes need to track time. With preset field definitions and a bundled freeware client/server database, TimeControl Express is designed for organizations of 10 to 100 users. TimeControl Express includes a Web interface and all the Project Management functionality that has made TimeControl the preferred timesheet system in project environments around the world. TimeControl Express is the time tracking solution for small business.

TimeControl Professional— for the growing organization

Professional is designed for the growing, mid-sized organization of 50 to 1,000 users. As with all of our TimeControl products, Professional comes pre-configured with links to Microsoft Project, Primavera and Open Plan as well as a user-definable module to link to virtually any finance system. TimeControl Professional can be installed using MS SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, Informix, or InterBase databases and includes both a Web and Windows interface. Professional is tremendously flexible with an unlimited number of user-defined fields on every table, an ability to rename fields and an open n-tier architecture.

TimeControl Enterprise — for the large corporation

Our premiere product, TimeControl Enterprise is designed to work across entire enterprises of up to 100,000 users. It includes multi-platform support and a server which can support Web Servers other than Microsoft’s IIS. TimeControl Enterprise includes an open n-tier architecture designed to efficiently support multi-national corporations with offices around the globe. Enterprise, our most flexible and robust product, includes both the Windows and Web interface, a timesheet designed for Internet Explorer and a platform-independent timesheet interface which supports multiple browsers under Windows, Linux, Unix, and other platforms. Like all TimeControl versions, Enterprise is multilingual and supports matrix organization approvals. Enterprise also includes the Data Consolidator which can bring multiple organization’s timesheet data together for reporting or analysis purposes.

Questions and Answers about which version of TimeControl is right for you.

Question 1: I‘m looking for a timesheet to serve our 500 user organization. We use Microsoft Servers and Internet Explorer as our web browser. Our corporate database is SQL Server. Which version of TimeControl is right for us?

Answer: TimeControl Professional is designed for exactly your environment. It supports an all-Microsoft environment perfectly and does not burden you with the technical architecture required to support multiple hardware platforms.

Question 2: We have 50 users who need to enter time. We don’t have a corporate database. Should we be looking at TimeControl Express or Professional?

Answer: TimeControl Express sounds like the right place to start. It includes a freeware client/server database to get you going quickly. Once your organization grows to the point where you select a corporate database standard, you can move to TimeControl Professional and all of your data will move easily with you.

Question 3: We have an organization of 800 users many of whom work outside the office. We need to implement a highly secure timesheet system that will not compromise our firewall.

Answer: You should be looking at TimeControl Enterprise. Our multi-platform timesheet interface includes complete firewall support for proxy servers and for working through your http port.

Question 4: We’re only 75 people but we need a timesheet that allows great flexibility in order to link to other systems already in our organization. Should we start with Express or Professional?

Answer: TimeControl Professional is your best starting point. It includes the capability to add an unlimited number of fields to the system and to redefine fields as is required. It is ideally suited for organizations where TimeControl’s data must adapt to the existing environment.

Question 5: We have 500 people and we’re mostly a Microsoft shop but our staff is divided into 3 distinct groups that are dispersed over 3 continents. Can we get the same efficiency with Professional for this environment?

Answer: No. TimeControl Enterprise’s ability to support multiple middleware transaction servers must be considered here. This functionality would allow you to run a TimeControl ATS transaction server on a machine in each continent and give users in the remote areas much better performance.

Question 6: We’ve got 75 users and TimeControl Professional looks good to us but we’re very budget conscious at the moment. What would we lose by going to TimeControl Express?

Answer: You’d lose three main areas of functionality:

    1. The ability to save your data on your corporate database as TimeControl Express must use the freeware database supplied

    2. The ability to add new user-defined fields to each table or to redefine those that are there.

    3. The full Windows interface for those unable to run Internet Explorer. If you do get started with TimeControl Express, then you can upgrade with a very small penalty at any time. When you do upgrade all your data comes with you.
