Migrating data from Microsoft Project Online to TimeControl
In September of 2025, Microsoft announced it would end it’s Microsoft Project Online service in September 2026.
HMS has had a link to every version of Microsoft Project since 1995 including Project Online when it was first released. Existing clients of both TimeControl and Microsoft Project Online already have their timesheet data in TimeControl. As these clients migrate to other project management tools, HMS is assisting them in integrating to their new project systems and continuing their use of TimeControl uninterrupted.
For prospective clients who are considering their options to leave Microsoft Project Online, HMS has established a migration service which will take all Microsoft Project timesheet data along with the tasks, assignments, resources, employees and projects related to the timesheet data and migrate it all to a new TimeControl environment.
Once all of this data has been moved to TimeControl, these clients can then start use of other project management tools, even if that means Microsoft Project Desktop and link TimeControl with the new tools. All the historic timesheet data would be safely stored in TimeControl.
HMS cannot confirm that every Microsoft client will lose complete access to their Microsoft Project Online service in September of 2026 and HMS will continue to support the integration between TimeControl and Project Online until we are sure the last of our clients using both systems are no longer using Microsoft Project Online. However, this Migration service will also be available for as long as Microsoft Project Online is availabe to any Microsoft client.
For more information on the schedule of the decommissioning of Project Online, see our blog post at: Microsoft Project Online will go Offline.

Decentralized Project Management and Centralized Timesheets
When people talk about Enterprise Project Management software, they tend to think about a large centralized system either on premise or online which houses all project data. For many reasons, not every organization is able or willing to deploy such a centralized system. There are millions of licenses of stand alone project management systems in organizations and these stand alone systems continue to serve project managers well. But what does that mean for the centralized requirement for timesheets? This white paper looks at this business challenge and points out the benefits of using decentralized project systems and a centralized TimeControl timesheet all linked together. This is impossible with other timesheet systems as TimeControl has by far the most integrations with project systems in the industry.
